Unsure, hesitant, irrelevant, overwhelmed, small, unimportant, and blocked.
I wanted to play bigger, reach more people, and make more money, but I lacked confidence. I already had a game plan, a business idea, and a support system of family and friends rooting for me; however, when I stared at the blank screen trying to produce clever copy and put a price tag on a program that I put my heart and soul into, my inner critic took over. The mean girl in my head taunted me: "You suck. Who's going to pay that much? Who do you think you are charging $297 for consulting?"
B-School was kind of like the best friend with all the right answers. You know that friend who always says the right things, makes you feel better about yourself, and helps you fix all your problems big or small? That's B-School. I gained confidence, upped my prices, and created products and services that my target market couldn't wait to buy. I also found my joint venture partner, Mayi Carles, who I adore to bits and pieces, and learned lots of new marketing skills.
I had my first launch that brought in over 20K. I was featured in US News & World Report. I’ve been invited to and asked to speak at conferences. I’ve worked with Mayi to make money to start our collaborative business, and we made 28K in two weeks. This allowed us to up our game with professional video and photography and work together in Panama.
Confident, inspirational, powerful, focused, influential, savvy, and motivated.
When people ask me how my business is going, I can confidently tell them that it's going great. I no longer mumble that I enjoy working from home and quickly change the subject. My family no longer thinks that I have “some little blog thing.” They don't completely get what I do, but they're amazed at the press I've received, the conferences I spoken at, and the money I've made.
I've built a business that excites and motivates me daily and that supports my family financially. I no longer lay in bed at night wondering if I'll make enough money or if I'll have to return to a draining day job. I'm grateful that I'm living a life I love, because I know what it feels like to dread waking up and moving through the day like you're on a treadmill that never stops. My husband and I have worked hard to build our dream life. There are bad days and we still have our own struggles, but we got clear on what we wanted like a three bedroom house with hardwood floors, two bathrooms, a fenced in backyard, a room for my craft studio, and three dogs. Now, we have all of those things. I get to create and write during the day and spend the evenings with a partner I love. I'm blessed.
B-School was a big financial commitment for me, but it was also one of the best business decisions I've made. If you're wondering whether or not it's worth it, it's way more than worth it. If you put in the work, the potential outcomes are limitless. You'll get the tools you need to create the business you truly want to run.
For years grads told us how B-School changed their lives, not just their businesses. We decided to document and share their experiences through this collection of interviews and videos.
